Week 1

Part 1
Instructions: Watch both the 2 minute video by Ira Glass and the 15 minute TED Talk with designer icon Milton Glaser.  On your blog, note the concepts that struck you as important in this competitive world of design.  What inspires you to learn about and do good design?

The things that stuck out to me in the first video was the different ways that Ira Glass expressed and presented different words. Her unique style was intriguing, and I myself could have never come up with the idea for that video. In the TED talk, what Milton Glaser said was very interesting. He talks about different design types, and it made me wonder how a certain pattern or font becomes popular.

Part 2
Instructions: Select two great designs - anything from anywhere - and explain why you selected them and discuss their designs.  Along with your explanation, post the images, giving credit to the designers.

I chose to look deeper into the history behind the amazon, and target logos.

The iconic amazon arrow which everyone is formilliar with comes from the fact that amazon used to be a large book company. The arrow points from "a" to "z" because the company had books titled from a to z. The story behind the target logo is not as interesting. A group of 200 people were given the assignment to brainstorm name ideas for the new store. The name "Target" came up, and stuck, not long after that the logo was formed.
